Burtonwood Allacock sold half a sawmill on Fowling Creek to Joseph Allford, November 14, 1739 (Dorchester County deeds, 10 Old 78). In 1750, Johanna Alcock of Kent County, Delaware Bay in Penna., Gentlewoman, sold Thomas Alcock part of “Taylors Lot where Alcocks Saw Mill is located,” (Dorchester County deeds, 14 Old 430). This site was on a branch of Fowling Creek opposite the present Nagel feed mill [1976].  (John J. McGrain, Caroline County Molinography)

The 1875 Isler Map of Caroline County shows a grist and saw mill at the location described above.  The 1897 Saulsbury map assigns the owner as W.H. Dean.
