William Still Center – 8230 Detour Road, Denton, MD
Tour Time: 4:00 -4:30 pm
William Still was a conductor of the Underground Railroad and was responsible for aiding and assisting at least 649 slaves to freedom.
James Webb Cabin- Grove Road, Preston, MD
Tour Time: 4:45 – 5:15
This one room home with a loft was built by James Webb a free African American farmer in 1852. He lived here with his enslaved wife, their four children and his father.
Linchester Mill – 3390 Linchester Road, Preston, MD
Tour Time 5:30 6:15 pm
A historic grist mill built in 1682 and holds the stories of generations of freedom seekers.
Leverton Home – 3531 Seaman Road, Preston, MD
Tour Time: 6:30 -8:00 pm
The Leverton/Hubbard Foundation is introducing the Leverton dwelling with this event. This is the first time that the property will be open to the public. Owned by Jacob and Hannah Leverton, this Quaker family was committed to helping those enslaved no matter what the cost. Their home was a significant stop on the Underground Railroad and their friendship and support of Harriet Tubman is well documented. The setting and the Harvest moon will be a dramatic backdrop for the history this significant property offers. Additional time has been allocated to enjoy the fire pits and refreshments which will be available at this site.
